The University of Alaska Southeast Evening at Egan fall lecture series continues Friday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. with “Working on Ice: Field Notes from the Juneau Icefield Research Program (JIRP).”
This lecture will feature several speakers sharing updates on the Juneau Icefield and the Juneau Icefield Research Program. Annie Boucher Krumdieck, JIRP Director of Operations, will speak about the past field season. She will be joined by additional staff and program participants who will share updates, photos, videos, and stories about their time on the ice. The evening will conclude with a discussion of the Program and plans for growth and outreach.
The Juneau Icefield covers an area the size of Rhode Island and includes some 50 outlet glaciers. The Juneau Icefield Research Program maintains 11 permanent field stations and a dozen temporary camps on the Juneau Icefield and peripheral areas. For over 75 years, Nearly 2,000 individuals, including students and professionals, have participated in the program. The Juneau Icefield Research Program runs in partnership with the University of Alaska Southeast, the University of Colorado, Boulder, and the University of Maine.
Evening at Egan lectures are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Egan Library on the Juneau Campus and live-streamed on the UAS YouTube Channel. They are free and open to the public.
